A Floral Fable: Colour Design

This is the second design I did for my A Floral Fable Design demonstration at the Capilano Flower Arranging club .

The demonstration explores ways to add small floral details to tell your own floral fable or simply express yourself with floral art.

With every design I will demonstrate one concept, thought or idea and by just slightly changing a few of the floral ingredients the design flips over into its contrast.

The moral of our second fable is that colour can make you super cool or smoking hot:

Cold and frosty Floral Art demonstration design.

We begin our design cold and frosty...

A Floral Fable cool design snuggled up in a twig nest.

Snuggled and curled up

Orchids and berries hybernating in a bed of moss.

while hibernating in it's twig nest.

And then...

A Floral Fable design demonstration design- warm.

the spring sun chases the clouds away

Orchids and Jasmin on a forest floor of dogwood.

and heats up the forest floor

A Floral Fable warm design.

to create our warm surface design

A Floral Fable colour design- snail shell spiral equisetum.

In my cold design I used frosty green Cymbidium Orchids and Hypericum berries snuggling in a bed of reindeer moss. I spiraled dark green Equisetum like snail shells to curl up and over the pave.

A Floral Fable colour design- warm.

Then to change it into a warm forest floor design I made a red dogwood stick lattice to suspend my test tubes on. I filled the test tubes with pink tinted Jasmine buds and Cymbidium Orchids. The lip of the orchids was exactly the same dark red as the dogwood.

Every week I add a new design with related tutorials. Be sure to subscribe to receive an email notification with design inspiration.

Tutorials

6 March 2012 Glue a round stacked twig platter

Stack and glue tiny twigs to create a round platter

25 August 2011 Placing orchids in test tubes

Cut the Phalaenopsis orchid with a bit of green stem attached. This will make them last longer.

23 March 2012 Curl Equisetum shoots into a snail shell spiral

Equisetum is hollow and jointed resembling miniature bamboo but it can be shaped into spirals by wiring the shoots

18 January 2012 Butterfly feeler hooks for swinging test tubes

I don't always want to wire my test tubes into the design. I like to create a bit of movement by simply hooking the tubes to gently swing.

23 March 2012 Twig lattice to cover a basket

Make a lattice or grid cover for a basket by pressing sticks through the basket

Favourite Flowers

Cymbidium

Cymbidium, Boat Orchid

Equisetum

Scouring Rush, Horsetail, snake grass, puzzle grass
